People have assembled across the country to commemorate the second anniversary since the Hamas-initiated attack on 7 October 2023, as discussions proceeded in the neighboring country over a conclusion to the conflict in the Gaza Strip.

The assault led to in excess of 1,200 people killed and 251 others captured away to Gaza as hostages. It was the single most fatal day for the Jewish community since the Second World War.

Israel reacted by launching a armed campaign in Gaza which has killed in excess of 67,000 people, according to the region's Hamas-run health ministry. Its statistics are considered reliable by the United Nations and other international bodies.

"The bloodthirsty opponents have hit us hard, but they have not defeated us," the prime minister remarked on Tuesday.

He also pledged to "accomplish all the goals of the war: the return of all the captured, the elimination of the Hamas government and the guarantee that Gaza will never again create a risk to Israel".

Remembrance Ceremonies Across Israel

The government authorities postponed official memorials until mid-October - after the conclusion of the Jewish High Holiday season - but gatherings still occurred throughout the country on Tuesday.

A commemorative event for the relatives of Israelis who died in the Hamas attack was held in Tel Aviv. Organized by the families themselves, it was broadcast throughout Israeli TV networks.

A period earlier, a minute's silence was observed across the country.

Negotiation Meetings in Egypt

Simultaneously, the conflicting parties' delegations met in the North African Red Sea resort of Sharm el-Sheikh for a second day of third-party negotiations to discuss the provisions of the proposal.

A high-ranking representative knowledgeable about the talks revealed that an evening round of mediated discussions started at evening in Egypt.

The source said the morning session ended without concrete outcomes, because of conflicting views over the proposed Israeli withdrawal maps from Gaza and over safeguards Hamas demands to ensure Israel does not recommence fighting after the opening period of the agreement.

He noted that the talks are "difficult and have still not achieve any significant progress," but mentioned that facilitators are working hard to narrow the differences between the both parties.

Palestinian Situation

At the location of Nova festival, those paying respects gathered to pay their respects.

From that location, the noise of aerial bombardments and shelling could be heard just a few kilometres away in Gaza, where observers said the heavy Israeli attacks continued.

"When the night arrives, the anxiety arrives with it," relocated Gaza City resident a local woman, whose teenage son was died by an Israeli aerial attack earlier, shared.

"We are terrified of the bombings. Throughout the evening we are resting together, holding each other, particularly my little child who places his face on me the entire evening."

"Constantly we check the updates to see what happened. And I'm afraid that this halt will not be completed and that the war will return to us."
