Britain Set to Use Immobilized Russian Holdings to Finance the Ukrainian Defense

The British government is ready to advance with employing the entire amount of seized Russia's assets to aid the Ukrainian defense operations, Leader Sir Keir Starmer has announced.

In a shared declaration, the heads of state of the United Kingdom, France, and Germany asserted that this joint measure would heighten pressure on Russia's leader Vladimir Putin and compel Russia to come to the table.

They clarified that the initiative would be implemented in close cooperation with the United States.

United Kingdom sanctions have frozen more than £25bn of Russian funds since Moscow launched its full-scale invasion against Ukraine in 2022. Yet, up to this point, money provided to the Ukrainian government using Russian funds had solely been drawn from gains and dividends generated on them.
