Adult Swim's Top New Show of 2025 Gets a Substantial Extension for Two More Seasons.
Last October, Adult Swim welcomed back its unconventional hit, Smiling Friends. Yet, not long after, the channel introduced a fresh animated series with a markedly softer feel. Haha, You Clowns emerged as gentle and comforting, reminiscent of a animated take of a laid-back talk show. During a period often marked by cynicism, this show's sincerity resonated deeply and turned it into a breakout hit.
A Major Commitment
On December 18th, the network revealed exciting news: Haha, You Clowns has been greenlit for a further two seasons. This gives creator Joe Cappa ample opportunity to expand upon the world of the Campbell family. The series follows three respectful teenage brothers whose central trait is their strong bond for their widowed father, with Cappa providing the voices for all four key characters.
"I am incredibly thankful to the viewers of the show who took a chance on the show and spread the word," remarked Cappa. "I am overjoyed that I get to spend more time in the Campbell household for seasons to come."
Network Praise
In the same announcement commendation from Adult Swim president Michael Ouweleen, who described the series as "radically heartfelt and oddly captivating." He thanked the fans who discovered the show and championed its uniquely offbeat style.
"All of you showed up for this new show, praised it on social media, and helped it grow week over week so we could greenlight not one, but two more seasons," said Ouweleen. "As the show says: 'You are strong! You are loved!'"
A Wholesome Alternative
Earlier this fall, Haha, You Clowns was praised as "a wholesome alternative" to other adult animated fare. It offers something surprisingly comfy about following this endearing family navigate their simple existence.
Previously, creator Joe Cappa stated his desire to move the comedy genre beyond its current layer of irony. He traced this trend to the rise of certain blockbuster franchises.
“It feels like there's a default mode of irony that we can't get ourselves out of,” explained Cappa. “It's like we have to know we’re the cleverest viewer in the room when we're watching stuff. I feel like we've been doing this for too long, and we must laugh at something different now. It's time for comedy to grow.”
The Path Forward
Given this two-season order, with Haha, You Clowns set to continue, Cappa may well help usher in that very evolution. Or at the very least, the renewal promises audiences more opportunities to bask in the gentle humor of the endearing Campbell clan.
The final episode of Season 1 of Haha, You Clowns will premiere on December 21st. The complete first season is currently streaming on HBO Max.
